I am a lifelong resident of Windsor Hills/View Park. Unfortunately, I find myself in a situation where the neighbor behind my property is building an ADU nearly the entire length of our property line wall and has a roof pitched so high that it completely blocks the view that I once had of Marina del Rey.

The neighbor wouldn’t consider lowering the pitch ever so slightly, which would have worked just fine on the structure according to an acquaintance of mine who is an ADU architect. I built a deck in my backyard three years ago to enjoy watching the sunsets on the ocean.

This neighbor was fully aware of my project and knew how much the view meant to me but did not tell me what their building plans would entail. I was taken aback when I saw workers framing the roof three weeks ago and discovered that I spent so much money to improve my surroundings to no avail. When I mentioned this fact to one of their family members, their response was, “Sorry about it. Build higher.”

For me, my neighborhood is no longer Windsor Hills/View Park–it is now Windsor Hills/Roof Park. Sitting on my deck and enjoying my surroundings is nearly impossible and I cannot avoid feeling hemmed in.

I grieve the loss. I wonder if anyone has had an experience similar to mine, or if anyone has advice.
