On January 17, 2023, singer/songwriter Kenny Lattimore and his wife, attorney and former judge on the TV series “Divorce Court,” Judge Faith Jenkins, gave birth to their daughter, Skylar Leigh Lattimore.
The 53-year-old Lattimore, who is best known for his 1997 chart-topping hit “For You,” also claims parentage to another new offspring, his latest well-received single, “Take A Dose.”
Released on December 3, 2021, the song spent two consecutive weeks at the #1 spot on the Billboard Adult R&B charts back in February 2023. “I just had a baby within the last five months, and I have a hit song. It’s like having two babies at once, life is full of celebration and surprises,” said Lattimore.
Lattimore is a 25-year veteran in the music industry, and he says his secret to longevity through the highs and lows of the industry is harkening back to when his career first began.

“When you really think about why you did music in the first place, if you can get back to that place of loving it, I think that’s the place I want to stay,” expressed Lattimore.
Before embarking on a solo career, Lattimore was the lead singer of the R&B group “Maniquin.”
The group released one album in 1989 on Epic Records. Lattimore exited the group to venture out on his own.
He notes that one of the secrets to his long-term success is learning the different roles of his music team.
“No one is going to understand your vision or your market like you, unless they started with you,” declared Lattimore. “I’ve learned from some powerful visionaries… your team can help you sustain it.”
Lattimore also sites that teaming with younger artists has contributed to his career longevity.
“Take a Dose,” Lattimore’s latest hit, was written primarily by one of the track’s producers, Drakkar “Madicin” Wesley. Lattimore is also a mentor to Wesley. Lattimore says he gave his most recent album, “Here to Stay,” to Wesley.
“I was trying to bring more exposure to him, because I think he’s brilliant,” said Lattimore.
“When I went in to promote deals and how I wanted to promote him, the labels were like ‘sure but when can we have another Kenny Lattimore album?’”
Lattimore reveals that he brought Wesley on to produce the album, so they both could win. Their combined efforts, he noted, created a project that appeals to both a younger and mature audiences.
“I am happy that people continue to accept me in this space and at this time in my life,” concluded Lattimore.”
