Linda M. Perkins is University Professor and director of Applied Gender Studies at Claremont Graduate University. She holds an interdisciplinary university appointment in the departments of Applied Gender Studies, Educational Studies, and History. Her primary areas of research are on the history of African American women’s higher education, the education of African Americans in elite institutions, and the history of talent identification programs for African-American students.
With a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Perkins has made her career as a historian of women’s and African American higher education. She has served as vice president of Division F (History and Historiography) of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and she has served as a member of the Executive Council of AERA.
Perkins was on the National Planning Committee for the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the Brown v. Board of Education at New York University and taught a course on Brown in fall 2004. She hosted a national research conference in February 2008 on the impact of the Brown decision and the 1964 Civil Rights Act on black higher education.
She is on the editorial boards of History of Education Quarterly and Review of African American Education. Her publications include Fanny Jackson Coppin and the Institute for Colored Youth, 1865–1902 (Garland, 1987) and “The African American Female Elite: The Early History of African American Women in the Seven Sister Colleges, 1880–1960″ in the Harvard Educational Review (1997). Perkins has several forthcoming book chapters on the female African American college experience.
Wallace Chipidza is an assistant professor in the Center for Information Systems & Technology at Claremont Graduate University. He holds a PhD in information systems from Baylor University and an MS in computer science from the University of Arizona.
Chipidza mainly researches how and why social networks change over time, the impacts of those changes, and the interventions that moderate those impacts. His other interest lies in designing ICT based solutions to problems afflicting vulnerable populations in developing countries. To answer his research questions, Chipidza uses a variety of advanced techniques including machine and deep learning, network modeling, and simulations.
Chipidza’s work has been published in multiple prestigious journals including Journal of Strategic Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, Big Data & Society, and International Journal of Information Management. His work has been included in the proceedings of the International Conference on Information Systems, the Hawaii International Conference on Systems Sciences, and the Americas Conference on Information Systems, among other conferences.
Juanita Dawson has a passion for information security. As a director at Raytheon Technologies, she provides the vision and leadership for developing and supporting initiatives critical to compliance in security, cyber intelligence, risk management, records management, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
She also serves as the principal liaison with key internal and external partners, product teams, and support groups, ensuring that the organization’s practices and technologies comply with all applicable laws and regulations. As a doctoral student, Dawson is researching cybersecurity, compliance, and interoperability of information systems. Her connection to CGU is a family affair. Her son Quincy earned his master’s in education in 2020, and her daughter Nicole graduates this year with an MBA.
Dawson is an active board member of Girl Scouts Greater Los Angeles, AARP Executive Council, California State University Dominguez Hills Computer Science Advisory Board and The Inland Valley Newspaper Advisory Board. Other civic boards include Junior League (Riverside), Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated (Orange County), The Links Incorporated (Claremont), and Top Ladies of Distinction Incorporated (Inglewood).
Grambling State University, a master’s degree in information systems and technology from Claremont Graduate University, and an MBA in computer information systems from California State University Dominguez Hills. Currently Dawson is a doctoral candidate in CGU’s Center for Information Systems & Technology (CISAT) whose research focuses on privacy, cyber security, compliance, and interoperability of information systems.
