The Little Black Dress (LBD) affair was held at the Bella Luxe Loft on Center Drive, in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 11. The Los Angeles Sentinel’s photojournalist, E. Mesiyah McGinnis, attended the illustrious boutique affair, a gathering of beautiful Black women in elegance, style, camaraderie, and commerce. We asked the host, Barbara Mitchell-Goods, her thoughts on the event and its importance in the Black community.
“The affair was inspired by a conversation with my friend, Menette Young, about how elegantly Black women carried themselves in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s; how they were always so tastefully and beautifully attired. This look was reflected in movies, entertainment, and housewives. Since the holidays were approaching, Menette and I decided we would have an event where ladies had a wonderful excuse to dress up.
Every year, we bring a new aspect to the LBD affair. This year, my Kimono collection was launched. The ladies had a marvelous time participating in an impromptu photoshoot featuring the Kimonos! Custom cocktails with fun names such as the Kimono Cocktail and the LBD Cocktail were created by Nia from Live Moore Events.
This year we also featured a select group of vendors: Yes Please, Teas – Bath and Body by Saundra – Black Business Women Rock by Natalyn Randle – Black Women who Love Plants – and Oolala Toffee. We also had two amazing artists, Henry Goods, and Darrell Moore, showcasing their truly stunning work on paper and canvas.
Bella Luxe Loft Boutique offers a gorgeous array of curated clothing, sparkling jewelry, fragrant candles, and unique gifts such as embellished journals, rhinestone bibles, decadent bracelet stacks, French-milled soaps and so much more.
