Michelle Moore Bell, founding president of The Wellness Group, said, “The mission of The Wellness Group is to educate, inform and empower women on breast health awareness and a healthy lifestyle. I am extremely passionate about this campaign because there are no known ways to prevent breast cancer; however, early detection is the key to breast cancer survival.”

Also, Bell announced that the Annual Breast and Whole Health Forum is set for Saturday, September 25, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., via Zoom.  In past years, the annual event took place at West Angeles Crystal Room with over 200 women in attendance.

The Wellness Group is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Their focus is to promote a healthy lifestyle to the under-resourced and under-served.  Their goals are to reduce the mortality rate among African American women through health education and promote early detection with self-breast examinations, clinical breast examinations and mammography services.

Currently, breast cancer ranks second among the causes of cancer deaths among African American women, which is only exceeded by lung cancer, according to the California Department of Health Services.
