The Dodgers closed out the Brewers 4-2, and their pitching was terrific. Walker Buehler started for them Wednesday and had eight strikeouts in four innings. After giving up a two-run homer to Avisail Garcia that brought the score 3-2, Dodgers replaced him with Urias in the fifth inning. “I was happy those guys were able to get the job done,” said Buehler during his press conference. He didn’t blame the blister for the big hits guys had on him. He simply said it was a mistake and will get better.
Mookie Betts gave the Dodgers momentum early with a line drive to center field and led to a Chris Taylor score. The Dodgers one-two punch that is always discussed is Kershaw and Buehler, but Corey Seager mentioned the dynamic duo with him and Betts at the top of the lineup. “The lineup is deep. It’s not just us. There are guys all in the lineup that can do damage. They are good at-bats, they take their walks. The first inning was big for the Dodgers as they were able to get bases loaded and capitalize. Dave Roberts said, “Mookie started us off, some good at-bats and a couple of doubles and the energy was great. Then Corey tackled one late. You would be hard-pressed to find a better one-two punch in baseball.”
Winning this game, one was significant for the Dodgers; they do not take it lightly, says Seager. “They are a tough team. They got a really good bullpen, and they have good position players that take good at-bats.”
Buehler, Urias, Blake Treinen, and Kenley Jansen all helped get the job done to secure the win. Kenley Jansen was the closer tonight for the Dodgers. Urias had three scoreless innings, and Dave Roberts gave him a lot of credit. “I give him so much credit for him giving us whatever we ask as hopefully we get to the next series, he will make a start.” As nervous the fans were when Christian Yelich was at bat and Jacob Nottingham on first base, Jansen ended the game with a strikeout.
Clayton Kershaw will start game two tonight.
