Amid shouts of praise and repeated applause, Bishop Clement W. Fugh concluded another spirit-filled session of the Southern California Annual Conference (SCC) of the AME Church.
During the Closing Worship and Commissioning Service on Oct. 21, hundreds of parishioners filled the ballroom at the LAX Hilton to hear a powerful service by retired Bishop Carolyn Tyler Guidry and the 2018-19 SCC pastoral appointments by Bishop Fugh. As presiding prelate of the 5th Episcopal District, Fugh oversees AME churches in Hawaii and the 14 states west of the Mississippi River.
While the majority of SCC pastors were reassigned to their churches, a few moves were announced. The Rev. Rosalynn K. Brookins was appointed to Parks – Oakland, the Rev. Larry Holloway to First – Indio, the Rev. Denise Jackson to Prince Chapel – La Jolla, the Rev. Godfrey Patterson to St. Paul – Sam Bernardino, the Rev. William Sheppard to Brown Memorial – Pasadena, and the Rev. Nicolette Birdsong-Wilson to St. James – L.A.
First-time pastoral assignments consisted of the Rev. Marvin McKenzie to Walker Temple – L.A., the Rev. Terrence Sims to Johnson Chapel – El Centro, and the Rev. Don Wallace to New Allen – Delano.
The reappointments included the Rev. Carolyn Baskin-Bell to Second, the Rev. J. Edgar Boyd to First – L.A., the Rev. Dr. Francine Brookins to Bethel-Fontana, the Rev. John Cager to Ward, the Rev. Dr. Kelvin Calloway to Bethel – L.A., the Rev. Michael Eagle to Grant-Long Beach, the Rev. Benjamin Hollins to Price Chapel, the Rev. Dwaine Jackson to Bryant Temple – L.A., the Rev. Dr. Mary Minor to Brookins-Kirkland, the Rev. Darryl Walker to New Philadelphia and the Rev. Mark Whitlock to Christ Our Redeemer – Irvine.
