Pacific Mount Olive Church of God In Christ (PMO) hosted its 3rd Annual Community Event and Backpack Giveaway on Aug. 18. The event focused on domestic violence, mental health, bullying and illiteracy.
Pastor Milton and Lady Belinda Joyner, along with PMO members and volunteers, served the community with free giveaways, canned goods, backpacks, school supplies and food.
“Shanita Miller, founder of Young Movement 15, incorporated a game of musical chairs as a way to engage many of the kids in fun, competitive play. She was able to demonstrate how the jostling and jockeying and pushing for those final chairs, by the kids, was a reflection of what bullying can look like,” said volunteer Ilario Malvern.
“In the middle of all the fun, the message of the Good News of Jesus Christ given by PMO Brother Glenford Morris was a fresh cool glass of living water on a hot summer’s day as the day was heating up.”
“There is an incredible value in being of service to others,” said volunteer Angela Martin.
This year’s event included Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice, Los Angeles Central Library, Young Movement 15, Kerden Community Health Center, Metro and the PMO Evangelism and Witnessing Team.
Also, various organizations provided donations and broadcaster Aundrae Russell of KJLH Radio Free 102.3 FM made a special appearance.
