Shirley G. Evans was the 3rd child born to Hardy Sr. and Omealure Gibson in Little Rock, Arkansas on April 25, 1935, she and her mother shared a birthday.
Shirley was educated in Little Rock, Arkansas where she also worked in the school system as a school registrar. While in Little Rock, she married Wallace Warren and to this union, two children were born, Wendell Warren of Las Vegas, Nevada and Kim Warren of Los Angeles, California.
Later in the 1960’s, she moved to Los Angeles, California with her two children. She worked for McDonald Douglas for several years. Later she started job working for the City of Los Angeles as a City Clerk and received many awards for her work. While in Los Angeles, Shirley met John Evans. In 1968, Shirley and John wedded.
In the early 2000’s she and John moved to Las Vegas. Prior to moving to Las Vegas, she was a member of the senior usher board at First African American Methodist Church where she served for many years. Shirley was also a member of the Eastern Stars where held the title of worthy matron and a member of the Daughter of Isis where she was a member of the drill team.
During her retirement years, Shirley found a new church home and continued to remain an active member and served on the usher board. Additionally during her free time she enjoyed getting her hair and nails done, spending time with family, watching television shows like “Judge Judy,” “Big Brother,” and “Love & Hip-Hop” (which her grandchildren got her into). When she wasn’t watching television, you could find her in the kitchen cooking teaching her grandchildren and other members of the family her favorite recipes.
Her favorite color was purple.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Hester Brown of Decatur, Georgia and Essie Moore of Lancaster, California. She is survived by both her children Wendell and Kim, and one brother, Hardy Gibson Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, John Evans whom she was married to for 50 years, two step-daughters, Carol Young and Wanda McElwee. Along with many nieces, two nephews, six grandchildren including: LaTanya Cambell, KeAnna Warren, Kasey Crews, Kiwana Warren, Wendi Warren, and Kimberlee Buck and many great grandchildren.
