At the 25thAnnual Economic Awards Dinner, the Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce (GLAAACC) celebrated business pioneers whose efforts have contributed to the economic growth and development of the African American Community. The event was held at the JW Marriott LA Live Hotel in downtown Los Angeles on March 30. Since 1994, GLAAACC’s Annual Economic Awards Dinner has been an occasion where individuals and corporations are recognized before their peers and the business community.
“A lot of progress has been made in the last 25 years, but no one does it alone,” said GLAAACC Chairman Gene Hale. “It’s only right that GLAAACC, as a representative of the African American business community, takes an opportunity annually to stop and recognize individuals and corporations that have helped us move forward.”
Awards were given in nineteen categories including a special legacy award presented to Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) Chief Development Officer Bob Gilbert for his four decades of service to the aviation industry. GLAAACC’s Special Recognition Awards went to Jeffrey Brunswig, Operations Manager, Hensel Phelps Construction; Louis Carr, Chief Information Technology Officer at Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP); and John Harriel, Project Superintendent, Morrow-Meadows.
Other awards categories included Minority Business Advocate, Community Service, Small Business Advocate, Corporation of the Year, Healthcare Company of the Year and Commercial Construction Company of the Year.
Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson was the evening’s Master of Ceremonies. Entertainment was provided by jazz saxophonist J. Boykin.
