Okung, who completed his first season with the Chargers, will replace Oakland Raiders offensive tackle Donald Penn, who is unable to participate due to injury.
The 2010 first-round pick is making his second appearance in the Pro Bowl, having played in the annual contest in 2013 when he anchored the Seattle Seahawks offensive line during a stellar 2012 season.
Okung played and started in 15 games for the Chargers in 2017, protecting Pro Bowl selection Philip Rivers’ blindside while also opening holes for Melvin Gordon to rush for his first career 1,000-yard season. He was part of an offensive line that allowed the least amount of sacks in the NFL. His two sacks allowed (according to STATS LLC) equaled his best single-season effort of his career in which he played 10 or more games.
The Texas native helped keep Rivers upright to throw for 4,515 yards and 28 TDs for a 96.0 rating. He was part of a unit that allowed Rivers time to post seven games with a passer rating above 105 and nine games above 100, including one game with a rating of 149.1.
The eight-year pro aided Gordon to rush for 1,105 yards and eight touchdowns for his first 1,000-yard rushing season and the first by a Chargers running back since 2013.
The 2018 Pro Bowl will be played at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla., on January 28.
