Colonial Life changes the way insurance is given through diversity and supplemental insurance.

Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company is changing the lives of their employees and clients through supplemental financial help.

Many life insurance companies cover medical bills and hospital fees, but Colonial Life takes a look at some of the other important things people need when recovering from an injury. While it is still important to have insurance that covers medical bills, the people at Colonial life want to make sure that the rest of your bills can be covered as well.

“People get confused about our insurance, which is supplemental instead of regular insurance. The regular insurance pays for the medical bills, but the insurance that we do puts money in people’s pockets,” said Andre Durity II, who has been working with Colonial Life for 10 years. “We help them pay for things like their car notes, house notes, college tuition, lunch money for the kids and anything else that needs financial support.”

The company has helped people get through battles with cancer, car accidents and more. One of Colonial Life’s sales leaders was his own testimony how supplemental insurance can help in a time of need.

“I was hospitalized and as a veteran, I have great medical insurance,” said Todd V. Mason, the territory sales leader for the California South Coast. “But having insurance with Colonial Life really helped because being the main financial provider in my household, I have to still be able to pay the bills. I was able to get $700 for everyday that I was in the hospital.”

Colonial Life is also making a difference in diversity in the insurance business. They are serving a diverse group here in Los Angeles and the employees are able to match that diversity and relate to their clients.

“Most of the time, when you talk about the insurance industry, you’re talking about folks that don’t look like us. We’ve been consumers but we have not been in the role of insurance professionals,” said Durity. “When you look at public sector ,you have a very diverse L.A. county and a very diverse workforce, and I think it helps when people see people who look like them.”

Colonial Life has become a great way for people to make a living on their own terms. No prior experience is needed but hard work is a necessity. Working with Colonial Life is like running your own business; you have the opportunity to create your own hours and choose how to grow your relationships with clients. There is a 90-day training period, but if you have patience and good work ethic, it could lead to a six-figure salary.

“In a market or an economy where everyone is not doing well; this is an industry where you could come in, embrace, learn and be very successful,” said Mason. “There are at least 141 diverse individuals who make six-figures working with us.”

Along with the flexibility and financial opportunity, Colonial Life employees appreciate being able to sale people something that really has an impact in their lives. For many of the employees, the best part of their work is being able to help when people need it the most.

“My favorite part of Colonial Life is the people, the people on both sides. The people that we bring in are from diverse backgrounds and we have a support staff that can relate to any situation,” said Durity.
