Do you have a sweet tooth? If you do, then get it ready and if you’ve put it away for the summer, then it’s time to bring it out again. Taste of Soul (TOS) is back for the 12th year and continues to be the family festival where the eats can be found. Dessert is always on display and Don’t Forget The Sugar (DFTS) will not disappoint at this year’s festival.
Tiffany Doran is an alum of Food Network’s “Cake Wars” where she didn’t win the competition but she didn’t come out of it empty-handed either.
“My assistant forgot to put the sugar in our batter which ended up resulting in a loss,” said Doran. “Instead of me making it a negative, I took it and change my business’ name to Don’t Forget The Sugar.”
Doran started baking when she was a little girl and it has been a part of her life ever since.
“Grandma bought me an easy bake oven when I was five and I never looked back,” said Doran.
She started making all the cakes for the birthdays in the family and is doing the same thing now with DFTS, which specializes in custom-designed cakes. They also offer cupcakes and cookies as well and mostly everything is made to order. Her signature dish, which has everyone wanting more, comes in a jar.
“The Southern Peach Crumble Jar,” said Doran. “That’s the main one.”
Dessert in a jar has been on trend for some years now and DFTS will keep jar desserts on everyone’s mind with the Southern Peach Crumble and her newest creation, Blueberry Crumble.
“Blueberry is new but it’s a hit already,” said Doran.
In the Blueberry Crumble you will find spices, granola, cinnamon cheesecake filling, sea salt caramel and of course, butter, which makes it all “really soulful,” said Doran.
Doran is a part of TOS Nation AKA she has been a regular Taste of Soul attendee for the past eight years. This will be her first TOS festival with DFTS and she is looking forward to sharing her desserts with the community.
“[TOS] was a personal goal I set for myself last year that I wanted to be here this year by any means necessary,” said Doran. “I just really expect to have fun, sell these jars and get it out there.”
