Get ready to dance your way to fitness with the DanceLove app. The fitness app was created and developed by 15-year technology veteran Pat Lang, co-founder Jennifer De Dios, as well as other members of the team.
Together, they are focusing on executing one mission, “spreading love and uniting hearts through dance fitness within the dance fitness community,” says Lang.
“The team has been amazing and they have been very helpful; I couldn’t do this without them. Everyone has kind of stepped up to the plate and owned their domain. It is really great to work with a group of professionals who are taking it seriously,” he said. “I am also proud to say that our team is not only culturally diverse but gender diverse as well.”
The fitness app is the first of its kind allowing for dance instructors to connect with their students, gyms, and studio owners worldwide. Instructors will be able to post their weekly schedule and the format and technique they teach in. While students will have access to weekly calendar events and reviews of the dance instructors, the app personalizes each student’s dance experience by remembering the genre of music and format the participant prefers. The app then suggest classes that are available near the individual’s location.
The idea of the DanceLove app came about after Lang was laid off from his job. He began juggling stress and soon became overweight. After he got married and had children, he decided to make a change for himself and his family.
“I was hugely overweight, when I started having kids; it made me want to change my life. I would go to sleep at night and I would have sleep apnea and literally stop breathing which was freaking my wife out,” said Lang.
As a former MC, Lang enjoyed the party scene and dancing but knew it wasn’t reasonable to have a family, a nine-to-five job, and go out all night. The next best option for him was Zumba.
“Zumba was starting to gain some momentum in northern San Diego where I was,” he said. “The 24 Hour Fitness near me was having a Zumba class so I decided to go check it out,” said Lang. “I walked into the gym and opened the doors. There was music, it was loud, and people were getting their groove on and I turned to the guy and said, ‘I’m in.’”
Lang signed up for a membership and began taking classes. He went from being in the back of the room to being in front row clapping and “getting the party started.” This year makes six years since Lang’s Zumba journey. Today he is a certified Zumba and Bokwa instructor.
Currently, the DanceLove app is in development and will launch in the Summer of 2017. The app will be available to download for iOS at launch followed by Android in the app store.
