E’Dena Hines, the 33 year-old granddaughter of actor Morgan Freeman was stabbed to death on Sunday, August 16 in Manhattan, police said. Responding to a call of a stabbing, officers arrived to find Hines lying in the street with multiple stab wounds in the torso. Hines was transported to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Lamar Davenport, 30, boyfriend of Hines was arrested at the scene and transported to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation, authorities said. Davenport was charged with second-degree murder on Monday, August 17.

Morgan Freeman mourned Hines in a statement Sunday, saying: “The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”

Hines was the granddaughter of Freeman’s first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw. According to friends, Hines Hines apparently moved back to New York this summer to star in the independent dramatic comedy Landing Up.

According to her website, Hines studied acting at New York University. In a July 9 blog post entitled “Stillness in Silence, Hines wrote “there is something beautiful in knowing you can find your stillness and be silent, but you can also be a ball of power.”
