King/Drew senior A’Nia Passmore is a dual-sport athlete, competing in track and field and flag football. Last August, Passmore was named the Maxpreps Flag Football Player of the Game for her performance against West Adams.
Zebulon Barnes received a full scholarship to Lincoln University to play golf. Barnes started playing golf at a young age but took a seven-year hiatus from the sport. “I started playing tournaments when I was six,” Barnes said. “It’s been one heck of a journey.”
King/Drew senior Anthony Torrence is one of four captains of the football team. He has helped the Golden Eagles reach the CIF City Section Division I Semifinals.
Los Angeles High School senior Ka’yon Richardson wants to leave his mark this season. He has helped the Romans to a 2-3 overall record.
King/Drew senior Jordan Garcia is a pitcher for the Golden Eagles softball team. She has been a Varsity pitcher since the ninth grade.
Dorsey junior Ashton Johnson is a multisport athlete, helping the Dons 4x400m relay team reach the CIF State Championship. Johnson also competes in baseball and soccer.
Junior Christina Gray has no problem helping maintain the Carson Colts women’s track and field legacy. She has won City Section championships and competed in the CIF State meet during her first two years with Carson.
Educator Bridgette Robinson created Soccer iQ Institute to provide a unique academic experience for student athletes from sixth to 12th grade. At Soccer iQ Institute, athletic training for soccer is incorporated into a schedule with academics.
With St. Mary’s Academy last season, Jayla Cigar-Dingle reached the CIF State championship meet. She will be heading to Sacramento State University on a full-ride and will be competing on their track and field team under the tutelage of Kyra Jefferson.
Recent Carson alum Lauryn Williams is a two-time City Section champion in the shot put. In the City Section shot put finals, Williams threw a 39-8.25 to become the back-to-back champ. In the State prelims she improved to a 40-2.00, coming in 10th and qualifying for the State Finals.
Dorsey junior Adegheosha Asoro has been playing basketball for over two years and decided to compete in track and field this past season. In track, he ran the 400m and he also began learning how to compete in the triple jump.
King/Drew junior Brooklyn Walker is a highly motivated athlete who pours her talents and leadership skills into the girl’s volleyball and softball teams.
Hamilton senior Sherilynne Chensam has always loved playing basketball but competing would occasionally become overwhelming to her. When she felt her passion for basketball slipping away, she took a two-year hiatus during her freshman and sophomore years.
