Jordan sophomore Kayla Potts finished her first season with the Bulldogs girl’s flag football team. She chose to pursue flag football because she believes it can help her improve as a student and as an athlete.
“I feel like if I do flag football, I can get more energized and be active in school,” Potts said. “I feel like flag football is a fun sport to do.”
Potts is a football fan and is happy that Jordan has a flag football team.
“I know some schools don’t do sports,” she said. “It’s cool that I get to be able to do sports with my high school.”

Being new to the team, Potts relied on her teammates for guidance. Her time with her teammates taught Potts the importance of having strong communication skills.
“They’ve been telling me what I need to do and how to be able to get the flag and then the ball,” Potts said. “I try to go after my opponents.”
After her first game with the Bulldogs, she was proud of her ability to guard her opponents and the effort she put in when she attempted to take their flags.
“I play hard and I don’t let nobody try to get to me when I play out on the field,” Potts said. “My proudest moment was getting the ball and trying to run it into the endzone without somebody trying to get my flag. That’s a big deal.”
Being a student athlete gives Potts pride in her school. It also connects her to her classmates.
“I’m doing something that’s involved within the school,” Potts said. “People don’t know you if you don’t do sports.”
Potts began learning about flag football in middle school; it was the first sport she learned during her P.E. classes. Her favorite class is P.E.
“I was playing against people that’s either the same age or a little bit lower,” Potts said. “But we’re all working as a community.”
One lesson that she learned from her coach that resonated with her is that there are more important things than an overall record when playing sports.
“Play hard, do win and it’s not all about winning,” Potts said. “It’s about having fun.”
