L.A. County Renews Reward in Compton Double Homicide

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas recommended renewing a $10,000 reward in the Compton shooting, which was set to expire this week.
   About 9 p.m. on May 15, 2016, 24-year-old Richard Williams was driving out of a 76 gas station in the 1200 block of South Wilmington Avenue with two friends — 23-year-old Boston Farley and 26-year-old Brandon Upchurch – – when someone fired into their vehicle.

Just before 9 p.m. on June 16, a light-colored, four-door sedan stopped in front of the family’s home in the 22700 block of Island Avenue and someone inside the car opened fire. Lauvai was shot in the chest and died at St. Francis Medical Center. Another family member’s leg was grazed by a bullet.

St. Francis Medical Center Hosts “Sidewalk CPR”

Jun. 1-7 In support of National CPR Week June 1-7, St. Francis Medical Center is offering free Hands-Only CPR classes to the community in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency. According to the American Heart Association, nearly 90 percent of victims suffering a cardiac arrest (heart suddenly stops) outside of a hospital setting die. Less than half of these victims get the immediate help they need before professional first responders arrive. Immediate CPR can more than double a victim’s chance of survival. With 70 percent of cardiac arrests occurring at home, administering CPR could save the
