Obituary: Charles Hardy Thomas

Charles Hardy Thomas was born August 10, 1935 in Humble, a small town in Texas, where he was raised with his sibling. In 1943, Charles’ parents moved to California and settled in Marin City and later moved to Sacramento where they resided in Oak Park. Charles attended grade school and graduated from McClatchy High School.  Charles pursued higher education at American River Junior College, Sacramento, CA; Shorter College, Little Rock Arkansas; University of Oregon and the University of Alabama where he received a certificate and a degree in Small Business Management, Business Law, Engineering and Honorary Doctorate of Human Services.

  Andy Rudolph Rooks died on February 20, 2019.  Andy is the son of late Walter Rooks and Rosetta Rooks (Wilborn).  He was born in Houston, TX on March 16, 1939.  He was one of seven children.  He graduated from Fidelity Manor High School.  He loved jazz, teaching people about the Bible, baseball, BBQ, being an urban gardener, along with cherishing time with his family and friends.  He was a devoted husband and father.  He was a Jehovah’s Witness Elder for his congregation.  Andy worked for the US Postal Service for over thirty years, retiring as an Engineer.  He exuded

Her dedication to individual and societal betterment made profound and lasting impacts on many lives. Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, she was the daughter of James Tucker, Sr. and Cleo Christine (Fant) Tucker.

Compton Civic Leader Blondell Filer Passes Away

Mrs. Blondell Filer (Courtesy photo) Compton resident Blondell Filer passed away on February 9 at the age of 86 after a decades-long career in education, journalism and civic involvement. Her services were held February 27 at Citizens of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Compton. The widow of former Compton councilman and attorney, Maxcy D. Filer, Blondell was known throughout the community for her achievements in the Compton Unified School District (CUSD), the Compton branch of the NAACP, and as a columnist for the Compton Bulletin newspaper. A native of Elkhart, Indiana, Blondell and her husband relocated to Compton in 1953.

Jesse Johnson was born December 12, 1932 in Dallas, Texas to the union of Alexander Josh Johnson and Myrtle Johnson-Dillard; both preceded him in death. Jesse had six siblings; three brothers and three sisters. All six siblings preceded him in death. Jesse accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age.
