Art Center College of Design Honors Legendary Shoe Designer from Inglewood

On April 27, D’Wayne Edwards, who has designed shoes for some of America’s top companies like Nike and Adidas, received an honorary degree from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Unremarkable as it seems (Edwards has been a professional designer for about 30 years now), it’s not something Edwards imagined would happen for him. But he’s honored nonetheless,  to have received the degree; it’s something that has sparked a look back at his life in somewhat of amazement.

Nike Unveils Black History Month 2019 Collection

Nike is celebrating African American culture to start of 2019. The sportswear giant will be releasing a drop that will help consumers embrace their heritage. As part of a yearly initiative Nike will be releasing a Black History Month themed collection. According to the formal press release the designs were inspired “by an assortment of national African patterns, brought together onto modernized prints in a theme of Afro-futurism in sport.” The set will include some of Nike’s most classic and sought after basketball models including the Lebron 15’s, Kyrie 5’s and Air Jordan 1’s. On Tuesday, Los Angeles Ram’s towels whirled above the heads of students inside the Worthington Elementary School auditorium accompanied by chanting, “Who’s House?…Rams’ House.” Students eagerly awaited the appearance of Rams’ All-Pro running back Todd Gurley for his Childhood Literacy initiative in conjunction with Pizza Hut, the Rams, and The BOOK IT! Literacy Project.

Good For Business? Nike Gets Political with Kaepernick Ad

Nike has touched off a furor by wading into football’s national anthem debate with an ad featuring Colin Kaepernick, the former 49ers quarterback who was the first athlete to kneel during “The Star-Spangled Banner” to protest police brutality against Blacks and hasn’t played a game since 2016.

Earlier today Colin Kaepernick released the latest two-minute Nike commercial narrated by himself. Nike recently announced that Kaepernick will be a major part of the 30th anniversary its “Just Do It” campaign. The company announced it with an ad featuring the former quarterback reading, “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything,” alluding to his kneeling protest over social injustice that has cost him his job. LeBron James signs lifetime contract with Nike

CLEVELAND (AP) — LeBron James has a contract with Nike that will last long after he hangs up his sneakers.
