One thing is for sure, Black women mommas (BWMs) know how to take care of others – from our ancestral legacies of Queen Mommas like Nana Yaa Asantewaa to audacious spirit of Harriet Tubman to medical pioneer foremothers like Henrietta Lacks and Rebecca Lee Crumpler to mothers of the movement like Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King to our nation’s first Black Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
It goes without saying that Mother’s Day is 360 days a year, but since it’s only officially celebrated one day a year, it’s a good idea to go all out to find those unique gifts. Here are a few choices that we feel will make her special day, even more special.
Mother’s Day is a moment to appreciate women who delivered life and nourished those new souls to grow strong; she deserves the best. Los Angeles is filled with luxury dining to celebrate Mom and all that she does.
As you grow older, the hope is that we also grow wiser and this usually begins with understanding a big chunk of the advice given, so patiently, by our mothers.

This is a special Mother’s Day Message delivered at our Sunday Soul Session and dedicated to all our mothers, but especially to our mother. The mother I share with our brothers and sisters.
The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) began its “Operation Love” activities in the wee hours of Sunday, May 10. Their goal for this day, one of the most celebrated days of the calendar year across the globe, was to celebrate Mother’s Day with the personal delivery of 500 baskets of essential personal and gift items with dinner to Mother’s who have been in isolation due to the pandemic. Mothers who are seniors, living in assisted living facilities and/or living in shelters and some who are homeless. This national effort took place on both the West and East coast where an additional 500 Washington, D.C. residents received services.
The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation (LA County Parks) will reopen its golf courses and trails on Saturday, May 9. Local, community, and regional parks will stay open on Sunday, May 10. LA County Parks invites the public to safely enjoy its parks, golf courses, and trails by following guidelines and precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
