More than 19 thousand individuals joined in on a live telephone town hall hosted by Congresswoman Maxine Waters to discuss the Coronavirus pandemic. Thursday, March 19, the masses gathered to gain insightful information that is and will be affecting Los Angeles residents’ immediate surroundings and future.
District schools are closed in order to comply with the Safer at Home orders issued by state, local and public health leaders. Minimizing contact with others will help to flatten he curve on community spread of COVID-19. School campuses and facilities are currently closed for this purpose.
Beutner said the centers, which were expected to open Wednesday, will instead open on that day as “Grab and Go Food Centers,” 20 of which were already planned in addition to the 40 Family Resource Centers. The switch means a total of 60 Grab and Go centers will be available between 7 and 10 a.m. weekdays, beginning Wednesday, and each child will receive two meals.
“The public health crisis crated by the coronavirus is not something any of us could have reasonably expected to happen, and we are in uncharted waters as we work to prevent the spread of the illness,” Beutner said in a news conference Friday morning. “We have been following the guidance of public health experts on how we can keep all who are part of our school community … safe in the midst of the growing health crisis.
“We are calling for the rapid, accelerated, and humane closure of LAUSD schools,” UTLA President Alex Caputo-Pearl said. “Other countries have shown that a proactive — not reactive — approach slows the spread of the virus, makes sure healthcare providers are not crushed with overwhelming demand, and dramatically reduces fatalities.”

The United States Military Academy West Point cadets traveled to Los Angeles to host their annual Leadership and Ethics in STEM Workshop on Friday. The Diversity, Inclusion, and Equal Opportunity department at West Point partnered with LAUSD to host the event at Stephen M. White middle school.

Senior linebacker Q’marr Allen is using his voice to create change at Los Angeles High School. Not only is Allen a captain of the football team, but he is a leader in different ways on campus.
