The National Civil Rights Museum Shifts to Hybrid King Day Event

The National Civil Rights Museum has pivoted to present King Day: An All-Day Hybrid Celebration on January 17, 2022, with free admission to the museum from 8:00am to 6:00pm.  The museum is at limited capacity to uphold health and safety protocols. Guests must reserve museum passes online at kingday.org.

Justice for Ahmaud Arbery:  The Sentencing 

In the Superior Court of Glynn County, Wanda Cooper-Jones, mother of Ahmaud Arbery took the podium to tell her story of what life has been like for her family without her son.  Embarking on the unimaginable act of reading a victim impact statement, Cooper-Jones read a message to her son filled with emotion, “This verdict doesn’t bring you back, but it does help bring closure to this very difficult chapter of my life,” she said.

30th Anniversary Bounce Trumpet Awards Being Re-scheduled

Bounce, the nation’s popular entertainment television network serving African Americans, is rescheduling the 2022 Bounce Trumpet Awards, which had been originally planned to take place live on Jan. 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and air on Bounce on Jan. 17. The date has yet to be determined.

Leimert Park Community Celebrates Sika Dwimfo’s 81st Birthday

On Monday, December 27, the Leimert Park community surprised longtime business owner and community activist and cornerstone, Sika Dwimfo, for his 81st birthday.   As Sika’s birthday approached, Albert Lord, Community Build vice president of Gov. Relations and Arts Programs, wanted to do more. “When I learned about Sika’s 81st birthday, I thought it would a nice idea to give him his flowers now, vs. later.  Sika has always been a gentle and kind friend.  For me to do this for him was the least I could do,” said Lord.
