The day of King/Drew Medical Magnet basketball player Uchenna Ndigwe’s senior night game was eventful. As he prepared for his final in-season home game as a high school student, he had to help the school run their 11th annual career day.
The Crenshaw Cougars football team remain undefeated in the Coliseum League play after defeating the Dorsey Dons 51-0 during their Homecoming and Rivalry game. Dorsey made costly turnovers and the Crenshaw offense bested the Dorsey defense.
Senior Udochukwu Ebiriekwe has become a prominent figure at Crenshaw High School. Along with being a multi-sport athlete, he is the ASB Vice President and a member of the sports injury prevention program Team Heal.
Dorsey senior Jaidin LaCount has been playing on the varsity girls basketball team for four years. She helped the team put on a contending campaign this past season with a 16-7 overall record. The Dons also won the Coliseum League title with an 8-0 League record. After averaging 9.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game this season, LaCount was named on the 2019 All-City Division II team. “This team is much closer than the previous year,” LaCount said. “We win games more simply because we have a better connection with each other.” LaCount noted how playing in the
For the sixth consecutive year, the Carson Colts girls track team won the City Section title on Friday. The team scored 130 points, 76 more points than second place winner Granada Hills. The Palisades boys team snapped the Dorsey Don’s three-year Championship streak. Carson reigned over the sprinting events with junior Ryan Lacefield pacing the 200m and the 400m. The Colts finished the 4x100m in first place in 48.61s and came in second in the 4x400m in 4:03.23. “We just want to continue the legacy of our previous track stars and we want to be on top just like them,”
The Dorsey baseball team endured a tough season and their final home game was no different. Despite earning runs in earlier innings, the Dons lost to the Fremont Pathfinders 6-10. The matchup was senior day for Dorsey as they honored seven players: Elijah Dobson, Korey LaFlora, Elijah Moses, Nolan Smith Robinson, Ozabe Banks, Terry Burton, and Samuel Spann. Both teams only allowed four at bats to start the game. Starting pitcher LaFlora struck out two Pathfinders at the top of the second. May 9 marks the fourth consecutive year that the View Park Knights softball team reached the playoffs. This season presents a new challenge to the program as they were upgraded to division I competition. View Park finished their season with a contending 11-4 overall record and a 10-0 Coliseum League record. The Knights will face the Hamilton Yankees on Thursday in the first round of the playoffs. “It was very good but at the same time very challenging,” senior Sam Johnson said about the season. “We’re trying to get through them as best as we can.” View Park battled the

Dorsey senior linebacker D’Mar Johnson realizes how the lessons learned during a game can last long after the regulated minutes run out. Football does more than just develop a person’s athleticism. “I just like the contact of the sport and the sport, it gives you an edge on how to become a better person in life,” he said. “It’s not even just a game, it’s really a lifestyle that you live.” Johnson helped the Dons earn an 8-5 overall record and pace the Coliseum League with a 5-0 record. Sophomore Sydney Blevins became team captain of the Hamilton Yankees girls basketball team for this past season. Not only did she help the team during their Open division playoff run, he was with the varsity team last season to help the team win a division II City Section championship.
Since her freshman year at Dorsey, Princess Sparks has been playing on the varsity girls basketball team. As a junior, she helped the team reach the Division II City Section championship.
Rival schools Fairfax and Westchester reunited at the Open Division City Section championship for the second consecutive year. The Fairfax Lions avenged themselves from their loss last year, defeating the Westchester Comets 60-53. Fairfax was 3-0 against Westchester this season.
Crenshaw senior defensive back Jonah Edmond rises up to a challenge, whether it is solving math equations or solving the offensive schemes of opponents. With a GPA of 3.5, he had the highest GPA on the football team.
