King/Drew senior Chinedu Onyeagoro has helped the Golden Eagles football team have a 5-3 overall record and a 3-0 Coliseum League record. However, there was a time where he was reluctant to play the sport.
King/Drew senior Jordan Garcia is a pitcher for the Golden Eagles softball team. She has been a Varsity pitcher since the ninth grade.
King/Drew junior Brooklyn Walker is a highly motivated athlete who pours her talents and leadership skills into the girl’s volleyball and softball teams.
The King/Drew Golden Eagles softball team defeated the Mendez Jaguars 8-6 in the first round of the CIF Division II City Section playoffs. King/Drew will play the second-seeded Marquez Gladiators on May 13 at 3:00P.M.
The King/Drew Golden Eagles boys and the Birmingham Patriots girls basketball teams have won the City Section Open Division Championships.
The King/Drew Golden Eagles boy’s and girl’s basketball teams displayed their dominance in the Coliseum League when they defeated the Dorsey Dons on Wednesday. The King/Drew girls defeated the Donnas 65-8 and the King/Drew boys bested Dorsey with a 76-42 victory.
Throughout her formative years, King/Drew sophomore Lyric Stevens had been too shy to show off her talents or to try something new. This school year, it all changed when she decided to play on the Golden Eagles girl’s Flag Football team.

The King/Drew girls’ basketball team had a 16-15 overall record and placed second in the Coliseum League with an 8-1 record.
The efforts of the King/Drew boys’ basketball team would get them Coliseum League and City Section honors. The Golden Eagles had a 16-17 overall record and became Coliseum League champions with their 9-1 League record.
During the 2022-2023 season, their first season of existence, the King/Drew Golden Eagles football team had a 9-3 overall record and came in second in the Coliseum League with a 4-1 record. Their efforts got the Golden Eagles in the City Section Division II Quarterfinals. One student-athlete even received an athletic scholarship for Georgetown. After only playing one year of high school football, Kyler Dale will be playing on the Hoyas football team next fall. “I’m grateful for everything I have,” Dale said. “That was my main goal when starting football, try to get a scholarship, my mom doesn’t pay.”
King/Drew senior running back Janiya Hughes is the team captain for the Golden Eagles girls flag football team. Being a captain, she learned the importance of leading by example.
King/Drew senior Christopher Petit has been on the Varsity baseball team for four years. His talent and effort helped the Golden Eagles dominate the Coliseum League and reach the semifinals in the Division III City Section Playoffs.
