Words of the Week – You Wanna Be On Top

Scripture: Mark 10:35-45 Anyone who is a Tyra Banks fan remembers her hit TV show “America’s Next Top Model” — a reality television series and interactive competition in which a number of aspiring models compete for the title of America’s Next Top Model and a chance to begin their career in the modeling industry. Winners typically receive a feature in a magazine and a contract with a modeling agency, among other prizes. The show’s theme song is “Wanna Be On Top.” Every contestant wanted to win the coveted prize of being America’s Next Top Model. When you are on top,

When You Give All to Christ, Expect the Attack

When you were not fully devoted to God, the devil didn’t bother or harass you much because you simply didn’t pose much of a threat to him. But things changed. You became all business for God. Since you decided to give your all to the Lord, you became a prime target of the enemy. Ever since then, the devil has desired to sift you, just as he did Peter. In Luke 22:31, the Bible says: “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.” It is here that Jesus introduces the subject of

Words of the Week – To Love Your Enemy

I heard a pastor recently state that we’re going to always have enemies. He shared that people are going to fall into one of these categories: you will have people that will always hate you, you will have people who are willing to be persuaded differently about you and you will have people who really don’t care about you either way. People will have issues with you for a variety of reasons in life and many of those issues will be out of your control. Nevertheless, God has asked us to do something that may go against every fiber of

Words of the Week – Watch Yourself

Scripture: Luke 17: 1-3a As Christians, “born again” children of the Most High God, it’s not hard for us to often find ourselves in peculiar, non-Christian, un-Christlike situations – situations that can lead us to feelings of guilt and torment after realizing that we did something, said something, thought something or caused something we should not have caused! So, Jesus tells us to “watch yourselves.” Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords tells us to watch ourselves! In this life, the Bible says we will have trouble – trouble in relationships with one another, so watch yourselves! Be

Words of the Week – The Mind Has to Open to Understand the Scripture

Scripture: Luke 24: 35 – 48 The mind has to open to understand the scripture. The Bible informs us that the disciples spent time communing with Jesus, appreciating Jesus, and learning from Him.  They did not quite understand the mission of Jesus nor did they fully understand their mission until after the resurrection and His ghostlike appearance. They had watched Him die, saw Him buried in a tomb, then heard His body was missing. And suddenly, He was appearing in front of them, in the evening and it was not a figment of their imagination. But the disciples were not

Warlick Uses Variety of Music Styles to Promote God, Love and Unity

The genre-crossing, Christ-centered recording artist has gospel, country and hip hop fans. Everything about Lathan Warlick shouts, “I’m a child of God” and like the Lord can’t be confined to one area or section of life, Warlick approaches his music the same way, insisting, “Don’t put me inside a box!”

Words of the Week – God’s Finishing School for Men

Guess what? My best friend, his name is Jesus Christ, I call Him JC. Well, He enrolled me into this elite academy that only a few people know about. I had no idea He was doing that and when He told me, I was a bit taken back because this was the first time. I was hearing about it and I thought I was finished with school. He was like, “You are gonna love it, Brian, this is right up your alley. When you finish this school … you just wait and see.” I was like, “Ok, JC, you’ve always

Words of the Week – One Nation Under God

Scripture: Deuteronomy 17:14-20 America has a great deal of work to do to bring these words from our Pledge of Allegiance to fruition: “…one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” Today’s scripture text comes from the book of Deuteronomy. In Hebrew, Deuteronomy means “words.” The book of Deuteronomy is a “repetition of the law.” Moses is the author of Deuteronomy. Therefore, it’s known as the Book of the Law of Moses. Jesus attributed the book of Deuteronomy to Moses (Matthew 19:8). The apostle Peter, in Acts 3:22-23, credited Deuteronomy 18:15, 18 and 19 to Moses. The

Ask Dr. Jeanette: Who Dunnit??? Put Ur Hands Up! Now!! “The Conscience of the World”

Have you noticed frequently you hear, “I didn’t mean for that to happen.” Well, you may not have meant for that to happen, but the side effects and the residuals and the results of your actions led to this effect. You caused it by doing this. Think back…think way back and remember the prerequisite to your actions. What do you think The Almighty would say if He was asked, “O’Lord, why are we in this situation?” Since, He is all wise, all knowing and knows the end from the beginning, He might say something like, “You remember the instructions I gave you way back in the “garden?” Do you remember what you did anyway?” “Cain, remember when I told you, “I’m going to give you another chance. Just go back and think this thing over.” But, Cain persisted in doing things his own way and decided to confront God and worship The Holy God in his own way. Remember what happened to Cain?…God put him away from His presence. Cain became a vagabond and a wanderer.

Words of the Week – Check the Time!

Do you know what time it is? No, not temporal, but what time it is in the Earth? Right now, much is happening as we have seen an almost rebirth of the civil rights movement in the midst of a global pandemic. We are seeing people mobilize for racial justice and equality, not just in the United States, but around the world. In the midst of seeing so many people, of all races, calling for an end to systemic racism, something has been pointed out to me more than once — time. “And Jesus answered and said unto them, ‘take

Free-willed Viruses – From order to disorder

Did God create viruses? Of course He did! Genesis 1 says that all things were created by Him. Man (the discoverer) has created nothing that God had not already seeded and planted, such as the vast amounts of diamonds in Africa. Scientists and doctors alike have discovered and will tell you that even viruses are useful to our bodies to keep bacteria in check; which is also useful to us. It’s called good virus, and good bacteria. However, when a virus mutates and becomes something outside of God’s purposes, it then becomes a problem – remember the movie, “The
