Breaking Down the 2020 Agenda Lead by the California Legislative Black Caucus

The California Legislative Black Caucus has a mission to “address legislative concerns of African Americans and other citizens of color.” The CLBC has released their 2020 Legislative Agenda and there are two noted categories: Priority and Supported Bills. They cover economics, education, and social justice. Here is a summary of measurements proposed this year.

Making Sense of the 2020 Census

According to the Census Bureau post-enumeration survey, 800,000 African Americans went uncounted. What does this mean? It means once again, the voice of African Americans was denied. Many programs that impact African Americans are based in whole or part on data derived from the Census. History proves the disenfranchisement of Black people socially, politically and financially. Another ten years cannot pass before we realize how vital the United States Census is to the United States democracy.

L.A. Community comes together to construct “Safe Landing” housing project for homeless families

           Angelenos answered the social call for action to combat homelessness with local support on Saturday, February 15. A well-orchestrated community event launched the Safe Landing project. The city of Los Angeles naturally responded to the terrible epidemic of homelessness by generously donating food, house appliances, and physical labor to construct ten temporary housing arrangements for displaced families. Found on 85th and Broadway, is the active Safe Landing community. This was a public and private partnership raising awareness and finding immediate solutions to the challenge homelessness living in Los Angeles.                 According to the Homeless Services Authority’s count, between 2018

Major Housing Bill Dies In State Senate

After a two-hour debate last Wednesday, the state senate voted 18 to 15 to reject SB 50, a housing zoning bill Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) introduced to fast-track the building of more housing units in the state.  

Homeless Deaths Exceeded 1,000 in 2018

Pointing to “sobering” statistics showing that the number of homeless people dying in Los Angeles County nearly doubled from 2013-18, the Board of Supervisors voted today to deploy health care workers to encampments and shelters to assess health needs among the homeless.

National Senior Citizens Day Honorees Celebrated by the South Los Angeles/Inglewood Republican Assembly

National Senior Citizens Day Celebration, a day of honoring and appreciating all the things Senior Citizens in the United States has given, accomplished and sacrificed to help America be an awesome nation to live in. Black Men Still Incarcerated at Disproportionate Levels

“Systemic racism drives both poverty and the mass incarceration of low-income people, especially people of color. This cycle of poverty and criminal justice involvement feeds on itself and creates herculean barriers to achieving economic and social advancement, for those who have been justice involved and for their loved ones,” said Jennifer Jones Austin, FPWA CEO and executive director.
