The County of Los Angeles, in partnership with the Vera Institute of Justice, has published an online decarceration dashboard which provides a visual breakdown and analysis of the County’s jail population on a daily basis. The goal of this dashboard is to help policymakers, advocates, and academics better understand the makeup and changes in the population of people in LA County jails in order to craft public policy to safely reduce the jail population.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell’s motion to create a plan for strengthening investments in the County’s justice system by ensuring Public Defender’s have the budgeted resources and staffing capacity to sustainably address its case backlog as a result of COVID-19 and provide legal representation for lowincome residents, who rely heavily on indigent defense services.

SYDNEY KAMLAGER DOVE – THE RIGHT WOMAN, THE RIGHT TIME, AND THE RIGHT CANDIDATE FOR THE CALIFORNIA STATE SENATE

Former State Senator and now Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly Mitchell has left Sacramento.  While her ascension to the Board of Supervisors has pleased so many of her supporters, it has left a crucial vacancy in the halls of the State Capitol.  Not only for a Senator to represent the 30th Senate District with one of the most racially and economically diverse districts in the state, Mitchell’s vacancy also leaves the entire State of California with no African American woman in the California Senate and currently, State Senator Steve Bradford is the only African American Senator representing the entire state.

LOS ANGELES– CA State Senator Holly J. Mitchell is teaming up with LA County’s largest childcare provider – Crystal Stairs, the Child Care Alliance of Los Angeles (CCALA)  and KDW Apparel to get 7,500 masks to childcare workers. “While we’ve been working hard to make sure essential workers have access to needed childcare services, it is clear that those childcare workers who are stepping up to provide this critical service, also need to do so safely,” said Mitchell.  “Mayor Garcetti has strongly encouraged all Los Angeles residents to wear face coverings. Now is the time to provide CDC quality masks to our providers.” Over the next week , the 7,500 masks will be delivered to
