Halloween Will Go On, Despite COVID Concerns

Despite the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, three- quarters of Americans plan to celebrate Halloween in some form this year, according to a survey released today by Goodwill Southern California.

Many celebrations for the spooky holiday were put on hold last year amid the pandemic, but Goodwill’s survey found that many people hope to again don costumes or mark the occasion in other ways.

Wendy’s Window-Trick or Treat

Once again, COVID-19 has put a glitch in our everyday lives.  This year, we are told not to let our children go out “trick or treating” or attend Halloween parties.  Of course, this is good advice to help fight the virus and hopefully bring our numbers down from this pandemic.  When my children were little, I was never really much in favor of them trick or treating anyway.

It has been four days since the massacre at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. It is Halloween, and the funerals began yesterday for the 11 victims. It has been called “the worst attack on Jews in American history.” The coverage has been relentless throughout the media, and touching vignettes of the lives of the victims have been ubiquitous. President Donald Trump has ordered flags at federal buildings throughout the United States to be flown at half-staff in “solemn respect” for the victims. Grotesque irony notwithstanding, United States President Donald Trump also visited the site of the massacre yesterday and met with victims and/or their families.
