After a jump in cases and hospitalizations following the holiday break, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is joining community-based organizations in asking county residents to temporarily wear a face covering for 10 days in indoor public places to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect their friends, family, and community from an impending surge in cases.
More than 529,000 Americans have died since the pandemic began, and nearly 30 million have contracted the virus. “We all lost something,” the President declared. “A collective suffering, a collective sacrifice, a year filled with the loss of life. In the loss, we saw how much there was to gain. An appreciation, respect and gratitude,” he uttered. The mayor Announced that Los Angeles International Airport will have a Travel Safety Ambassador Program. It encourages passengers to practice physical distancing and follow hygienic guidelines, in the Southwest Terminal 1 and at the Tom Bradley International Terminal there will be ambassadors to hand out free masks.

Lives are at stake and each day more are at risk; the pandemic has gotten worse across the country. The mayor admittedly stated, “we never had so many people infected or infectious.” L.A. is on the border of level ‘red’ indicating severe conditions.
The necessities for flattening the curve was emphasized, there has been a temporarily closure of indoor operations at restaurants, wineries and tasting rooms, card rooms, zoos, aquariums and museums. L.A. County officials continue to stress wearing face coverings, hand washing, and social distancing. The numbers reflect hospitalization is on the rise, the pressure to prevent increased measurements of COVID-19 continues to grow. The city is now in level orange and if it shifts to red, there will be a mandated safer at home order put in place.
Nail salons, spas, tattoo shops, casinos, bars, and wineries are now approved to reopen. The county shared that they see overall COVID-19 counts increasing, as testing capacity widens its threshold, there has been a steady decrease in deaths and hospitalizations. As of Thursday, Los Angeles County Health Department modified the Health Officer Order to include infection control and distancing standards for the hand-to-hand contact services that are previously listed. In some cases, these firms will have limited capacity.
