U.S. Congressmember Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-CA-37) moderated a roundtable on April 8, focused on Los Angeles Unified School District’s (LAUSD) strategies to improve Black student performance in classrooms.
On May 16, 2020, Larry Aubry passed away, and left a legacy that few can equal, but to which many should aspire. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in the time of southern segregation and came to Los Angeles at an early age, attending Jefferson High School.
District schools are closed in order to comply with the Safer at Home orders issued by state, local and public health leaders. Minimizing contact with others will help to flatten he curve on community spread of COVID-19. School campuses and facilities are currently closed for this purpose.

The Los Angeles Unified Board of Education, today, approved a resolution commending the work of school site leaders and their “efforts to ensure that our students have the greatest opportunities, most effective educator and strongest, safest learning environment.”

Moving to highlight the potential dangers to academic success, Dr. George J. McKenna III convened the “Let’s Talk Student Health” town hall meeting on March 9.
The event is in direct response to one of the deadliest school shootings in America’s history
Bishop Clement W. Fugh, presiding prelate of the Fifth Episcopal District of the AME Church convened the Southern California Annual Conference (SCC) this week at the LAX Hilton Hotel, 5711 W. Century Blvd. in Los Angeles. The pastors and members of the 55 churches in the conference will participate in the business sessions, workshops and worship services. The gathering concludes with the Closing Worship and Commissioning Service on Sunday, October 29. The Rev. Darryl Walker of New Philadelphia AME Church is the host pastor of the conference. Among the highlights is Lay Witness Night on Friday, October 27, at 7 p.m.
