Kaiser Permanente Awards $40,000 Grant to Waters Employment Preparation Center

Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center on May 10, presented LAUSD’s Maxine Waters Employment Preparation Center with a $40,000 community health grant aimed at helping students pursue healthcare careers as Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs). The new funding will enable LAUSD to purchase brand new training materials for its free Vocational Nursing Program that primarily serves students in Watts. These include Smart Scopes, Integrated Diagnostic Systems, CPR mannequins, and virtual reality medical training gear, all of which are essential equipment needed as part of the students’ LVN training program. Maternity Care at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Ranks Among the Best in the Nation

West Los Angeles was one of 22 Kaiser Permanente hospitals recognized among the “Best Maternity Care Hospitals 2020” by Newsweek magazine. The elite designation, awarded to only 231 hospitals in the United States, identifies leading maternity care programs based on rigorous quality and safety standards. Kaiser Permanente hospitals represent nearly 10% of those named to the prestigious list nationwide – and 44.4% of those listed in California.

Compton College’s population of students, faculty and staff reflects the diversity of the residents that live within the Compton Community College District (CCCD) service area, which encompasses 12 cities includingthe communities of Compton, Lynwood, Paramount and Willowbrook, as well as portions of Athens, Bellflower, Carson, Downey, Dominguez, Lakewood, Long Beach, and South Gate.
