Los Angeles Inner City Cultural Center Presents Hattie Winston and Emily Yancy

Los Angeles Inner City Cultural Center, in association with the African Grove Institute for the Arts and UCLA’s Beloved Community Initiative, will present Hattie Winston and Emily Yancy in a one-time-only dramatic play reading of Emily Mann’s “Having Our Say” under the direction of Fay Hauser-Price on Saturday, April 13, at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, 9820 Washington Boulevard in Culver City. Curtain time is 3:30 p.m.

Theatre Director Sheldon Epps’ New Book Celebrates and Encourages Self-Direction

Sheldon Epps, one of the first Black artistic directors in American regional theatre, has written a new book entitled, “MY OWN DIRECTIONS: A Black Man’s Journey in the American Theatre.” Epps chronicles his tribulations and triumphs as a freelance director, which led him to the Pasadena Playhouse, where he served as artistic director for twenty years. During that time, he helmed many productions, also directing episodes of classic television shows along the way.

Willie Brown, Jr., Is Not Dead

On the June 28 broadcast of the 2020 BET Awards, the network included Brown’s image and name in a video montage of famous African Americans who have died within the last year. The tribute included Diahann Carroll, Bill Withers, the Rev. Joseph Lowery, Pernell Whitaker and others.  

Diahann Carroll to Receive ‘Hollywood Legacy Award’ at ABFF

Officials from the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) said they are proud to announce legendary singer, actress and author Diahann Carroll as the recipient of the “2016 ABFF Honors Hollywood Legacy Award.” ABFF Honors will be held February 21, 2016, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills, CA.
