The Los Angeles Urban League held its annual Celebrity Golf Tournament, on Monday, July 29th at the prestigious and scenic Calabasas Country Club.  The event brought together over 150 enthusiastic golfers, community leaders, Los Angeles Urban League partners, and celebrities to enjoy a day of friendly competition, breathtaking views, and inspiring philanthropy.

“We are immensely grateful to everyone who participated in and supported the 2024 Los Angeles Urban League Celebrity Golf Tournament,” said Cynthia Mitchell-Heard, president and CEO of the Los Angeles Urban League.

“The funds raised will make a significant impact on our efforts to achieve the highest true social parity, economic empowerment and civil rights for Los Angeles County marginalized communities. We look forward to continuing this tradition and making an even greater difference in the future.”

The tournament, produced by Hammond Entertainment,  kicked off at 10:15 am after Grammy- nominated singer-songwriter Jonathan Butler’s incredible rendition of the National Anthem, with celebrities Anthony Anderson, Cedric the Entertainer, Byron Scott, Coach Mike Woodson, California Senator Steven Bradford, Kathleen Bradley, James Loney, Michael Irby, Mike Hill, Chris Hale, Willie Gault, Dondre Whitfield, Marcellus Wiley, and Glenn Dorsey hitting the golf course with the event’s committee including co-chairs Stanley Washington and Keith Drake, as well as Marc Jones.  Participants competed in various categories, including Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, and a thrilling Hole-in-One challenge.

In addition to the competitive spirit on the greens, the event was also a significant fundraiser, featuring a silent auction as well as a live auction, with all proceeds going towards the Los Angeles Urban League scholarship programs to support young students, families and its core pillars which are Education, Advocacy, Workforce Development and Entrepreneurship.  This year’s event sponsors included U.S. Bank, AT&T, Stocker Street Creative, Beverly Hills Wealth Management, Loeb & Loeb, Atlanta Life Insurance, The KIS Foundation,  Beverly Hills Mercedes, Californians for Energy Independence, First American Title Insurance, Lendistry, Torrey Pines Bank, IBEW Local # 11, Jenkins, Gales, Martinez, and Noel Massie Family Foundation.

For over a century, the Los Angeles Urban League has stood as a beacon of hope and a champion of social justice, tirelessly working to uplift fellow Angelenos, explained a spokesperson.
