Arizona State grad student defensive back Chase Lucas is the captain of the Sun Devils football team this season. His efforts as a leader and a competitor helped Arizona State come in third in the Pac-12 with an 8-4 overall record and a 6-3 league record.

UCLA Bruins Lose Third Straight To #5 Oklahoma Sooners

The Bruin faithful arrived at the Rose Bowl in anticipation for a showdown against one of the most electrifying players in all of college football, Jalen Hurts. Upset hopes didn’t go as planned as (0-3) UCLA were defeated 48-14 by the #5 ranked (3-0) Oklahoma Sooners who got off to a strong start and never looked back. 

Student Athlete of the Week: Myles Bryant

University of Washington Huskies senior defensive back Myles Bryant is a former CIF Southern Section standout who is seeing success during his college career. Although the Huskies are having a slow start to their season, Bryant has racked up nine solo tackles and 1.0 tackle for loss in two games. His defensive efforts aided Washington to a 10-4 record, a Pac 12 title and a trip to the 2019 Rose Bowl game.

Student Athlete of the Week: N’Keal Harry

Harry currently leads the Sun Devils receivers’ corps with 62 catches for 928 yards and nine touchdowns. This helped Arizona State earn a 6-4 overall record and put them in second place of the Pac-12 South.

USC ‘Fights On’ to Win Rose Bowl 

The 103rd Rose Bowl had all the excitement of a basketball game. Lead switches, shocking interceptions, and long ranged passes made the 2017 Rose Bowl the highest scoring game in Rose Bowl history.

HBCUs, Others Play for Pay in the NCAA, Millions paid to smaller schools

Like many teams at historically black colleges and universities across the nation, Howard University’s football team lost its first two games of the season by embarrassingly large margins; for Howard, a combined score of 118 to 0. The second trouncing, a 76-0 loss to Boston College, made national news when referees shortened the game to avoid injuries and further embarrassment. Meanwhile, Morgan State, a perennial MEAC powerhouse, lost 63 to 7 in its first game and 67 to 14 a week later.  Other HBCU teams posted similar results.  In all, they lost by combined scores of 492 to 92 in

USC Handles No. 3 Utah, 42 -24

The USC Trojans handed the Utah Utes its first loss of the season and they have freshmen linebacker Cameron Smith to thank for it. Smith, a true freshman, intercepted three passes from Utah quarterback Travis Wilson, returning one for a Trojan touchdown. Smith’s interceptions accounted for 17 of the 42 Trojan points. “Any time a big play happens, the whole team feels it,” Smith said. “We piggyback on each other and make more big plays.” The Trojans played smarter and faster on Saturday night, rushing for 115 yards and four touchdowns.
