King/Drew senior Sadiq Henry is a dual sport athlete who was team captain of the Golden Eagles football team during it’s inaugural season. He noted how the skills from football and basketball give him a competitive edge.
Dorsey senior Ryan Tripp has been the captain of the Dons boys basketball team for the past two seasons. He initially did not want the role but being captain taught him how to maintain his composure.
The King/Drew girls’ basketball team had a 16-15 overall record and placed second in the Coliseum League with an 8-1 record.
The efforts of the King/Drew boys’ basketball team would get them Coliseum League and City Section honors. The Golden Eagles had a 16-17 overall record and became Coliseum League champions with their 9-1 League record.
During the 2022-2023 season, their first season of existence, the King/Drew Golden Eagles football team had a 9-3 overall record and came in second in the Coliseum League with a 4-1 record. Their efforts got the Golden Eagles in the City Section Division II Quarterfinals. One student-athlete even received an athletic scholarship for Georgetown. After only playing one year of high school football, Kyler Dale will be playing on the Hoyas football team next fall. “I’m grateful for everything I have,” Dale said. “That was my main goal when starting football, try to get a scholarship, my mom doesn’t pay.”
Isaiah Harris is a multisport athlete at Washington Prep. He is a wide receiver, wing, and sprinter with plans of also playing baseball.
The Crenshaw boys basketball team won a crucial game against the Washington Prep Generals 75-67. The Cougars now have a 23-2 overall record and an 8-1 Coliseum League record. Crenshaw boys basketball head coach Ed Waters noted how the Cougars were in a three-way tie with King/Drew and Washington Prep. “We’re having kind of a magical season, this was a big game for us,” Waters said. “We took care of business at home.” The Cougars had a six-point run late in the first quarter and kept their momentum going into the next phase. The Crenshaw Cougars boys and girls basketball teams defeated the Dorsey Dons. Both Cougars’ teams battled on defense to secure their victories.
The Crenshaw Cougars football team battled through adversity to go on a deep playoff run, leading them to the CIF Division 7-A State Championships.
The Crenshaw Cougars football team secured their first Coliseum League victory when they defeated the Locke Saints 38-0. Both teams now have a 2-6 overall record.
The Dorsey Dons football team started Coliseum League play on a high note by thwarting the inaugural King/Drew Golden Eagles team 26-6.
Recent Dorsey graduate Harrison Allen used his raw talent in baseball to pitch for the Dorsey Dons. Last fall, he helped the Dons football team earn a 10-3 overall record and a 5-0 Coliseum League record to qualify them for the Division I playoffs.
Dorsey senior football players Joshua Coleman and Mychai Williams were recently honored by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, John Ferraro Los Angeles Chapter. The organization hosted its 58th annual Scholar Athlete Award Banquet at Sofi Stadium; all the student athletes and their families got a tour of the stadium. The honorees were presented plaques in the Rams’ and Chargers’ locker rooms.
