New walking path highlights South LA community as the cultural, social and commercial center of Black life in Los Angeles
A Los Angeles City Council committee today advanced a proposal that would require retail employers with more than 300 workers to give their employees more advance notice of their work schedules.
The Economic Development Committee approved a requirement that would mandate retailers to provide employees with a work schedule at least 14 days in advance. It would also require that workers receive 10-hour breaks between shifts and be given the right to refuse changes after the schedules are posted.
The Rev. Kelvin Sauls and the Rev. Judi Wortham Sauls gathered with family, friends and community members before launching the next phase of their ministry. The “Sending Forth” Community Celebration featured written commendations, verbal well wishes, delicious food and fancy dancing as people from all walks of life came out to salute the Sauls,’ who just completed a six-year tenure as the senior pastor and first lady of Holman United Methodist Church in the West Adams district of Los Angeles.
