Honoring Legends, Championing CDU’s Mission

A little over fifty years ago, the Watts community revolted. After decades of neglect, brave leaders and neighbors rose up to demand solutions to the inequities that afflicted our community. The revolt was for a better future for the current residents, their children, and the generations to come. Ultimately, they demanded that our community should be one where residents have access to resources they need to thrive.

Olmos, Najera Address the Absence of Blacks and Latinos in Higher Education at CDU President’s Breakfast

Over 200 guests gathered at the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel February 11, 2016 for a timely discussion on the absence of Latinos and African Americans in higher education, at a President’s Breakfast hosted by Dr. David M Carlisle, President of Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU). Celebrities Edward James Olmos and Rick Najera keynoted the event, drawing from their own experiences and successes in education.

Sue and Bill Gross Nursing Endowment Rises to $2 Million for Charles Drew University

Bill Gross, and his wife, Sue, have committed an additional $500,000 to eligible Charles R. Drew University’s Mervyn M. Dymally School of Nursing students. The contribution increases The Sue and Bill Gross Nursing Endowment to $2 Million. Last year, their initial $1.5 million gift was the largest individual contribution awarded to the University’s Nursing School since its opening in August 2010.
