SALUTE TO AFRICAN AMERICAN NONPROFITS

Several South Los Angeles nonprofits and their top executives were recognized at the Los Angeles Business Journal’s annual Nonprofit and Corporate Citizenship Awards. The awards honor individual organizations and leaders whose focus is to improve the communities they serve.  Finalists and winners and were recognized during the L.A. Business Journal virtual event in early May.

Retired Rams Star Gives Back with BLQK Coffee

Former St. Louis Rams running back, Justin Watson, is selling coffee with a cause. He and Ritchie Tuazon recently created the BLQK Coffee brand, part of their profits will be donated to help combat social justice issues.

Brotherhood Crusade to Receive $15,000 Donation from Community Builders Group

Pasadena-based Community Builders Group (CBG) announced that its non-profit organization, the SeaFlo Foundation, awarded Brotherhood Crusade a $15,000 donation to assist with its ongoing efforts in the community. The unrestricted donation comes at an important time for Brotherhood Crusade as it balances community efforts around COVID-19, vaccine education, its sports programs and as children return to school.

Mothers In Action, LA Urban League, Brotherhood Crusade, And FEMA Surpass 10,000 Vaccinations Along Crenshaw Corridor

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a one dose vaccination, so all 10,000 participants are now fully vaccinated.  Tracy Mitchell, president of Mothers in Action, said “I want to thank the Mothers In Action’s village of volunteers that have staffed the site from day one, and who have committed to continue supporting this effort until April 10, when the site closes.”

The Los Angeles Brotherhood Crusade has been providing much needed resources and assistance to the African American community and all people of need and support for over 50 years.   Their mission of self-help and determination has never been more apparent and needed than through their work over the past year in helping the community navigate through this COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vermont Slauson Economic Development (VSEDC) Corporation has planted many seeds throughout Southern Los Angeles. They grow into fields of abundance and harvested wealth within underrepresented communities. VSEDC has plowed many opportunities for first-time business owners with the mission to “expand the needs for economic and small business development solutions in South Los Angeles.”
