South Central LA celebrated the grand opening of SÜPRMARKT, a new grocery store that sells affordable, organic, and vegan groceries.

The founder, Olympia Auset, began her journey as a “pop up shop” which eventually led to her opening her own brick and mortar storefront on Slauson Avenue. Auset says that the opening of SÜPRMARKT is important considering South Central has 1.3 million residents with only 60 available grocery stores.

And SÜPRMARKT will be more than just a grocery store, it will offer yoga, cooking and other types of wellness classes.

“This space is a space for healing,” Auset said.

The grand opening, which took place on June 22, brought out community members, local businesses, and leaders such as Assata Umoja, principal officer of the Hyde Park Organizational Partnership for Empowerment, and Tabitha Brown, a vegan influencer, actress, and entrepreneur, and many others.

Members of the community were able to enjoy vegan dishes, live music, hands-on interactive activities such as learning how to play spades, painting canvases, and learning about local initiatives in South Central.

SÜPRMARKT is located at 3526 W Slauson Avenue in South Los Angeles.
