King/Drew Football Contend in Inaugural Season

During the 2022-2023 season, their first season of existence, the King/Drew Golden Eagles football team had a 9-3 overall record and came in second in the Coliseum League with a 4-1 record. Their efforts got the Golden Eagles in the City Section Division II Quarterfinals. One student-athlete even received an athletic scholarship for Georgetown. After only playing one year of high school football, Kyler Dale will be playing on the Hoyas football team next fall. “I’m grateful for everything I have,” Dale said. “That was my main goal when starting football, try to get a scholarship, my mom doesn’t pay.”

Washington Prep Falls to Vaughn 37-69 in Division III Championship

Scoring accuracy and a tough defense would give the Vaughn White Tigers girls basketball team an 69-37 edge over the Washington Prep Generals to win the Division III City Section Championship. White Tigers junior Yamileth Ferreira noted how she grew up with her teammates and how that familiarity is an asset. “It was just the journey playing with them,” Ferreira said. “I just loved every game.” The Generals struggled with turnovers early in the game while the White Tigers extended their possessions with offensive rebounds. To conclude their second season, the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers hosted the L.A. Girls Flag Football League of Champions Super Bowl. Days after the event, the CIF Southern Section approved of a proposal to make girls football a CIF-sanctioned sport as soon as this coming Fall.

Crenshaw Has Six-Game Winning Streak After Win Against Washington Prep

The Crenshaw boys basketball team won a crucial game against the Washington Prep Generals 75-67. The Cougars now have a 23-2 overall record and an 8-1 Coliseum League record. Crenshaw boys basketball head coach Ed Waters noted how the Cougars were in a three-way tie with King/Drew and Washington Prep. “We’re having kind of a magical season, this was a big game for us,” Waters said. “We took care of business at home.” The Cougars had a six-point run late in the first quarter and kept their momentum going into the next phase. Washington Prep earned several points on the
