Grammy-winning artist Cory Henry returns to his spiritual roots at The Miracle Theatre in Inglewood for a celebratory concert that promises to be “transformative.” The performance, scheduled for Easter Sunday, April 20, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., honors his recent win for Best Roots Gospel Album at the 2025 Grammys for his soul-stirring project, “Church.”

“I’ve lived a lot of my life with this goal in mind and on my heart,” Henry said of the win. “It feels like it completes my childhood.”

The album is a return to Henry’s roots in Brooklyn church music, a 24-track opus blending gospel, jazz, and soul. “The music is based on spirituality in a way that I grew up on when I played in church,” Henry said. “Every time that I’ve entered a worship space that’s spiritually based, I feel so fulfilled. I want people to come out and get that—and leave fulfilled.”

The Easter Sunday show promises to be more than a concert. “We are celebrating!” Henry said. “We are celebrating my Grammy-winning project. And I want to dance. I want to shout. And I want to have a good time.”

Henry’s music has touched lives far beyond the pews. “People with different lifestyles and beliefs tell me, ‘Your music brought me closer to God’ or ‘It helped me restore a relationship with my father.’ I never expected that. But it’s why I’m more pressed than ever to keep making this kind of music.”

In a special gesture of community support, Henry is offering free admission to families impacted by the Eaton Fire. “People have been affected way worse than I have,” he said. “If this one moment can provide healing or joy in the midst of craziness, it’s well worth it.”

Joining him on stage will be gospel legend Pastor Derek Hatton, and possibly more surprise guests from the album. “It’s still developing. You never know who’s going to pull up,” Henry teased.

One of the album’s most moving moments comes from the late Bishop Carlton Pearson, whose voice anchors a powerful prayer on the record. “I knew when I was making this record that a prayer needed to be in there,” Henry said. “I told him, ‘Let’s just have church for about an hour or two.’ He just went into the prayer. There was no countdown, no planning. Just spirit.”

Pearson passed away in 2023, making the moment even more poignant. “One of the last things he told me was, ‘I’m so glad one of my last offerings on this earth is a part of this album.’ It means the world to me.”

Henry’s inspiration also draws from family. The album opens with the voice of his mother, Marie Henry, and features her arrangement of “Amazing Grace”—one she taught him when he was just five years old. “She was the lead choir director at our church. She played several instruments. I got it from my mama,” he says proudly.

He remains committed to creating spiritually driven music and confirmed plans for follow-up albums. “I’ve got ideas for Church Two, Church Night Service, maybe five or six more.”
