The fight for social justice and economic equity has deep roots in the Black and Brown communities of Los Angeles. Throughout history, we have found strength in unity, power in our collective voice, and hope in our shared struggles.
The Million Man March and Day of Absence are posed first in challenge to ourselves. We understand that the challenge to ourselves is the greatest challenge. For it is only by making demands on ourselves that we can make successful demands on society. In this regard we have raised three basic themes: Atonement, Reconciliation and Responsibility.

October is National Bullying Awareness Month and during this time we should all acknowledge and bring awareness to the subject of bullying especially because of the devasting and ongoing negative impact that is has not only amongst our youth, but in our society as a whole. Bullying is an extremely serious matter that continues to disrupt the lives of our children. Many children suffer in silence, harboring inner pain that stemmed from being bullied.
We really have to watch our language when we talk and interpret history and current realities and always interpret things and speak from a Black frame of reference. Even people who are supposed to be conscious sometimes slip into a white way of conceiving and saying things. But if we are constantly attentive to how we understand and interpret things from a Black frame of reference, a Black perspective, we won’t make such self-diminishing and undermining mistakes.
