Celebration of Life: Alvin E. Tircuit Sr., better known as “Turk the Barber”

Alvin E. Tircuit Sr., better known as “Turk the Barber”, went home to be with his creator, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Friday, August 13, 2021. He was 92 years old. He was born in New Orleans, LA. He was a devout member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church (where his mother worked). He attended St. Peter Claver’s school, Xavier Prep, Straight Business School, and Barber School. Alvin Sr. also served in the U.S. Army.

Celebration of Life: Dr. Mae Pendleton Cowan

Dr. Mae was a founding member of the Pasadena Chapter of the AKA Sorority. She held membership, supported, counseled, and set on the boards of NYC Program, the Pasadena Chapters of the NAACP and SCLC, Pasadena Unified School District PTA, and other numerous educational and youth organizations. Dr. Mae’s list of credentials is extensive. From Tuskegee Institute Mae received her B.S. degree in Social Studies. She acquired two M.S. degrees from Mount St. Mary’s College, one in Administration and Supervision, the other in Urban Education and Minority Group Studies. Mae earned her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in Education Psychology, Early Childhood Education and Drama. She had multiple credentials/certificates – the California Community College Supervisor and Instructor Life Credentials, a Standard Teaching Credential, a General Elementary Life Diploma, the Certificate of Specialist Teacher in Reading. Mae was also an Early Childhood Education Specialist.

Celebration of Life Set for Lillie Benbow Jackson

The life of District Missionary Lillie Benbow Jackson will be celebrated on Friday, August 27, and Saturday, August 26, at 88th St. Temple Church of God in Christ, 8825 S. Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles. Superintendent Anthony L. Williams, who is the son of Jackson Benbow, is also the host pastor. Her body will lie in state on Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Her homegoing celebration will begin at 11 a.m. All services will take place at 88th St. Temple. Celebration of Life: Gilbert J Delahoussaye Jr.

  Sunrise November 25th, 1934 Sunset August 2nd, 2021 Gilbert J Delahoussaye Jr. was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on November 25th, 1934 and entered to rest on August 2nd, 2021 in Fontana, California, at 86 years old. He is predeceased by his parents, Gilbert Delahoussaye Sr. and Lucind Lumbard. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Woodrow Delahoussaye  and Terry; as well as his stepmother, Mary Delahoussaye and his grandson, Ken Ray. Gilbert was blessed with four children: Gail and her husband, Anthony Rose; Craig and his wife, Chantal Delahoussaye; Sybil Delahoussaye; and Kim and her husband, Rene Delahoussaye-Hall.

Community Still Devastated Over the Murder of Michelle Avan

“What I want most is justice for my mother, and to continue her legacy,” stated Trevon Avan, the son of Michelle Avan, the Bank of America executive who was tragically murdered in her home last week.  Her death sent shock waves throughout the community and her family and friends have vowed to continue her legacy of good deeds for the betterment of the community and those less fortunate.

Albirther Frazier Lewis

Albirther Frazier Lewis was born December 19, 1933 to John Milton Frazier and Carrie Atkins in Mount Vernon, Alabama. Her mother passed away when she was a little girl. Shortly after her mother’s passing her father, Papa, remarried Ethel Frazier (fondly known as “Big Momma”). Albirther affectionately known as Bertha, Mom, Mother, Granny grew up in Mount Vernon. Shortly after graduating from Citronelle High School, she met and fell in love with Arthur Quintana Lewis, Sr. They would eventually relocate to Mobile, Alabama where they would start their family. Emma Daniels McFarlin affectionately called, “Dr. Mc, Ahma, Auntie Emm” was born on November 14th,1921 in Camden, Arkansas to Fred Daniels and Bessie Bell. The union produced three children, Shelton Daniels and Fred Daniels, Jr.
