After leading 5 a.m. prayer at Love and Unity Christian Fellowship for more than 34 years, Apostle Ronald C. Hill, Sr., is making changes.
Beginning February 2, the prayer service will be held on Tuesday through Friday at 9 a.m., on the church’s campus located at 1840 S. Wilmington Ave., in Compton. A 5 a.m. service will take place on only on Fridays.
“When I started the 5 a.m. prayer at Love and Unity, many didn’t attend,” recalled Apostle Hill. “Sometimes I would be in the cold church all by myself. I didn’t have a thing to show that God was with me. We didn’t own a pulpit, sound system and was blessed to raised $19 one Sunday morning.
“But, look what the Lord has done. We have now upwards of 100 people attending the prayer-anointed 5 a.m. morning services and we are blessed to be in a multi-million dollar ministry campus with a membership of 3,500.”
Explaining his confidence in the power of prayer, Apostle Hill shared his experiences with his mentor, Bishop Samuel L. Crouch.
“I know beyond any shadow of doubt that prayer works. As I was praying about this change, God brought to my remembrance about the times I prayed with Bishop Crouch at the Crouch Temple Church of God in Christ at 23rd and Central Ave (former headquarters for the 1st Jurisdiction of Southern California Church of God in Christ.)
“We would be meet for prayer daily, Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. Also, as far as we know of the early Christians, one of their early prayer times was at 9 a.m. These are the reasons I know God has released me move this early prayer time to 9 a.m.
“Bishop Crouch was a great, praying man of God who heard from God clearly. He laid hands on me, and I know the ministry of prayer and fasting was transferred upon me and my ministry.”
Love and Unity Christian Fellowship also holds additional prayer services on Tuesdays through Fridays. Co-Pastor Osie Hill leads the 6 a.m. service and prayer is held at 12 p.m. as well. In addition, an 8 a.m. prayer hour precedes the Saturday Bible Study at 9 a.m.
