The Los Angeles District Association of the Western Baptist State Convention will hold its annual session on Saturday, July 13, at 11 a.m., at Greater New Light Baptist Church, 1154 East 92nd St. in Los Angeles.
According to Dr. Patrick Ross, LADA moderator, the agenda will include business updates, workshops and presentations by various units including the LADA Women’s Ministry where Dr. Kathye D. Jenkins serves as president.
“This year, LADA celebrates 120 years of faithfulness to the community and the Women’s Ministry has played a vital role in providing resources to strengthen the people of Los Angeles,” said Dr. Jenkins.

“Our goal is to empower the women of our member churches with information, events, and programs to help their congregations and neighborhoods grow, both spiritually and literally. At our quarterly sessions, we cover topics that are designed to improve the quality of life of women and everyone in their sphere of influence,” she explained.
With that goal in mind, Dr. Jenkins has arranged for expert speakers to address the group on subjects such as mental health, COVID-19, and cancer awareness and prevention. She also places comparable emphasis on increasing the spiritual knowledge of the members.
For example, the April session of the Women’s Ministry featured the theme, “Drop in for Tea,” and attributes of believers were highlighted using the scripture. The characteristics or “fruits of the spirit” cited were royal-TEA (Galatians 4:7), personali-TEA (John 13:35), hones-TEA (Ephesians 4:25), accountabili-TEA (Romans 14:12), adversi-TEA (2 Corinthians 12:9,10), generosi-TEA (Luke 6:38), availabili-TEA (Isaiah 6:8), laughabili-TEA (Proverbs 17:22), uni-TEA (Psalm 133:1), humili-TEA (Acts 20:19), and hospitali-TEA (1 Peter 4:9).
“We were also uplifted by the praise period followed by the meditation, ‘Is Jesus Your Cup of Tea? and district members’ presentation of the individual teas. We closed out the session with inspirational praise, lunch (including homemade tea cakes), birthday recognition for those celebrating their birthdays during that quarter, giveaways, and fellowship,” Dr. Jenkins said.
She added that the Women’s Ministry sessions are open to women, men, and youth of any denomination, and she welcomes guests to attend. To learn more, call (310) 567-4231.
