Signed to X-Posure Entertainment Jamie Jones has opened for such acts as Erykah Badu, Juelz Santana, Avant, Trey Songz, 112 and Michael McDonald.

New Urban artist Jamie Jones is set to release her stunning debut CD titled Celebrity Music. Jones is a 21-year-old multi racial artist and her featured single “Whatever” has spawned her “I’m a MUTT” movement.

Super producer Swizz Beatz, hip hop icon Kwame and Larry Gates aka Precsion helmed the CD which was mixed by six time- Grammy winner Ken Lewis. Jones recently recorded a duet with superstar rapper Lil Wayne on her “I am Not Your Angel “single.

After listening to Celebrity Music it was evident that Jamie Jones is a star to watch in 2009-2010. Her music cannot be put into any single category. Jones is definitely a pop artist but her lyrics and vocal strength take her to another level.

Jamie Jones is versatile beyond belief. The only way I could describe her sound is as a mix between Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Keyshia Cole. Her style and tone differ on just about every track during her album and that’s makes for a great listen. There is something about her style and approach that make her authentic. Jones is coming from outside the box with Celebrity Music and that is a breath of fresh air considering the watered down industry of today.

I got a chance to catch up with the Jamie Jones as she made a stop in Los Angeles to participate and perform for an exclusive fashion show event. Instantly Jones character jumped at me and made me realize she was a star to watch. She has the sass of a say Britney Spears, a voice that competes Christina Aguilera and humility reminds me of Oprah Winfrey. She is the complete package.

Sentinel: How would you describe your style of music?

Jamie Jones (JJ): I’m inspired by the 80’s, classic 80’s rock. So I think it’s a mix of the 80’s rock, R&B and little bit of pop all put together.

Sentinel: When did you first know that you wanted to be a singer?

JJ: I remember just being in church when I was a little girl, like very young. My mom would pick me up and have me on her chest and my ear would be on her chest and so my ear would be at her chest and she would sing all the hems in church and I would be like, oh that sounds so good. Ever since then I’ve always had a passion for music and singing. It kind of jumped off though when I was in high school my junior year a teacher, he said that he knew someone, his brother in Maryland that did music and manages artist so the rest is history. My family and I we went up there had a meeting and that’s about it.

Sentinel: So you and your family made the move specifically to pursue your music career?

JJ: Yes. I graduated early and moved to D.C. the next day.

Sentinel: Tell me about your new project and how this album came to be?

JJ: Celebrity Music, the title alone it kind of means a lot to me because I feel if you are going to do something whatever it is, for me its music, or whatever you want to get into, be the best at it. I love the album, I love the songs. I think they all definitely describe me pretty well and the things that I think about and feel. Jamie Jones she is a person, she is venerable sometimes too, so I just try to incorporate that into the album”.

Sentinel: On the album or actually in the description of your bio you coin the term “mutt” as far as your ethnic background is concerned. Why is that term?

JJ: Well I’m multiracial. Don’t necessarily know my history. My mom was adopted and I don’t really know my father so that makes it a little hard. And just to make it easier I’m like you know what, “I’m a mutt”. My mom always said that. That was her answer so I’m like you know what I’m a mutt too.

Sentinel: Do you write all of your songs yourself or do you collaborate with other artist and musicians?

JJ: I definitely collaborate with people. I have written some of my own songs by myself. But I love working with people. I love bringing other energy and vibes to the table and coming up with something.

Sentinel: How would you describe the industry right now?

JJ: Despite whatever the industry is going through, whatever people say you know this is the kind of music this artist should be doing, I’m just like you know what I’m going to do the music that I feel that I want to do regardless of what the industry says is right. And if they like it you know great but if they don’t its cool because I am still true to me.

Sentinel: This is for the men that read this, what is your current relationship status?

JJ: I mean it definitely took me a while to just say “no I’m sorry”. But ya, no relationships, music is my boyfriend. And that’s the truth.

Sentinel: Tell me about your involvement with the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence? Tell me how that came about and what interest you in joining the organization?

JJ: What interested me about the organization was of course the Chris Brown and Rihanna thing, that came up and that was actually kind of timely because I was already really interested in the whole cause because of my background growing up and actually witnessing some things. So the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, X-posure Entertainment and myself are teaming up to give-a-way a car, a mustang. So that’s the most recent thing we are doing right now so we are going to give a 2010 fully loaded Ford Mustang away to a deserving fan so stay tuned.

Sentinel: I know you are doing some shows and performances back east but are there an upcoming concert tours we can expect to see you on?

JJ: X-posure Entertainment and I we are planning a college tour with Donnie Klang. So stay tuned for that as we are working on the dates and locations.

Sentinel: You being a female artist in the industry today, what are some of the obstacles you’ve encountered? 

JJ: I think the biggest thing with the industry especially for females it is just the constant critiques…People expect you to be a size zero and I like my curves. Just things like when people see me and they are wondering, “What is her ethnicity”? She looks like she should be singing this or she looks like she should be dancing this way.

Sentinel: is there anything you want to tell the L.A. audience?

JJ: Just stay posted. I defiantly check my MySpace, my Facebook, I’m on twitter and hit me up on my website and stay connected because there is always going to be something new and Jamie Jones isn’t going anywhere.
