Assemblymember Curren Price who presently represents California's 51st Assembly District, and is a leading candidate in the upcoming Senate race to replace Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas, invites the community to attend a free, Child Safety Event on Saturday, February 28, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm, at the Ladera Shopping Center, in front of Magic Johnson's Starbucks.
Price will be joined by representatives from KIDS ARE 1st and First Five Los Angeles to provide child resources and services information to the families in our community and the California Highway Patrol will be on hand to perform free car seat inspections and installations. In addition, representatives from the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department will help families fill out free Child Identification Kits, including fingerprinting and child photos
"Access to information regarding child safety is extremely important considering that national studies show 9 out of 10 car seats are being improperly used." Price said. "With car crashes killing more children each year than all childhood diseases combined, this event will provide much needed resources for community members to ensure their children are being properly secured while riding in a car, truck, SUV, or van."
According to recent statistics, car seats reduce the risk of death by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for children ages one to four. Properly installed car seats also reduce the need for hospitalization by 69 percent for children ages four and under.
"The primary function of this event is to raise awareness for community members in the 51st Assembly District regarding child car seat safety." Price concluded. "I welcome all of my neighbors to this important event and hope that they will take advantage of this important information."
