Brookins-Kirkland Community AME Church plans a Youth Gospel Explosion on July 22, at 3 p.m., at 3719 W. Slauson Blvd., in Los Angeles, said Pastor Mary S. Minor. The Young People’s Division sponsors the event. The theme is “We Have the Victory” based on Romans 8:35-38. Several youth choirs, pastors and praise dancers will participate. On July 23 to July 27, at 7 p.m., Vacation Bible School takes place at BKCAME. Classes for children, teens and adults will be available. Refreshments will be served. AME Southern California Conference Women In Ministry presents an Appreciation Luncheon and Comedy Show on July 28, at 12 p.m., at First AME Church, 2270 S. Harvard Blvd., in Los Angeles, said the Rev. Dr. Charolyn J. Jones, SCCWIM coordinator. The Rev. Roosevelt Lindsey, Jr., presiding elder of the Los Angeles South District, and the Rev. Dr. Allen L. First New Christian Fellowship Baptist Church offers free meals for children ages 18 and younger through August 10, at 1555 West 108th Street, in Los Angeles, said Pastor Norman S. Johnson, Sr. The FNCF Community Development Corporation sponsors the program. Meals are served weekdays, 7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meals are a component of the Summer Food Service Program, sponsored by the California Department of Education’s Nutrition Services Division.
