Recently, the Los Angeles Sentinel sat down with hair mogul Kim Kimble at her glamorous West Hollywood hair studio to discuss her new product line and ventures with HSN, the new season of “LA Hair”, hair care tips, business and more.

LAS: Tell us about your latest venture with HSN:

KK: I’m so excited about the opportunity to go and sell my products on HSN. I love it because it’s a way for me to educate the consumer on how the product works. Everybody needs to know, how does it work, what is this gonna’ do for my hair, and you’ll get to see it live on TV. They’re (HSN) such an amazing company and so it’s exciting to be a part of that and that was something that has always been a long-term goal of mine, and it’s finally here.

LAS: Tell us more about the Kim Kimble Silk Collection:

KK: The products I’m launching on there is my Silk Treatment Line. Women love a luxurious type of product, and that’s what Silk is. It has silk proteins in it that makes the hair silky and shiny, and who doesn’t want silky and shiny hair at any point? So there’s a shampoo, conditioner and a leave-in, but what I’m most excited about is the vapor iron. It’s a silk vapor iron that has argon oil infused, and it vapors out on to the hair shaft. Afterwards, your hair feels silky and smooth. It just feels really good and luxurious and I love to create luxurious products, I’m all about affordable luxury.

LAS: Congratulations on Season 5 of “LA Hair”. What can we expect this season?

KK: First of all, God is good. It’s very difficult to even get a show these days, and we were blessed to have a show and we’re in season number 5. “LA Hair” is a funny, but yet dramatic television show. This season we do have five new stylists on the show, and they’re very interesting characters, a little drama, and of course we have celebrities.

LAS: Why did you decide to bring James Wright to the “LA Hair” team/cast?

KK: In the season, I’m opening up a new wig and extension bar, and I want my wigs to fly off the shelf like Patti’s pies. So I wanted him (James) to come and help us boost our brand, and I wanted to take his talents and have him be a part of the team. When I got to know him, he was such a fun person to be around, so it was like a win-win.

LAS: What are some tips for maintaining either natural or relaxed hair?

KK: Of course there’s another line of items that we created called Silk, they’re nighttime silk treatments. So, whether you have natural hair, you have relaxed hair, I always recommend that you tie your hair down with silk, or you sleep on a silk pillowcase, or you use silk rollers, because the silk keeps the hair moisturized. Cotton takes the moisture out of your hair, which is going to let the ends and your hair be really dry. No bandanas, no grocery bags, no t-shirts torn up or anything like that. You need a beautiful silk bonnet.

LAS: The cast of the show consists of so many unique personalities, often with different skillsets, how do you foster synergy amongst the group when there’s conflict?

KK: You have to be very conscious when it comes to business… For me, it’s really hard because sometimes I think with my heart, and I care about people and I don’t always want to let people go, but when it comes to business, you have to use your heart and your brain. You’ve got to use common sense. If somebody is not working, bye Felicia, deuces, you’re out. Or, if somebody’s worth working with, you work with them, and you’ll see some of that happening this season on “LA Hair.”

LAS: If there is any celebrity that you’d like to do a makeover on hair wise, who would it be and why?

KK: Not that there’s anything wrong, but I would love to makeover Ariana Grande. She’s been wearing that ponytail for a while, but I would love to see her do something different. Some color, a little cut, something cute and sassy. My friend does her hair, he does an amazing job, but just to do something different, that would be a fun makeover. I like to take chances. I like to change people.

LAS: So, what’s the next phase of the “Kim-pire”?

Expansion. I’m not only expanding the product line, but my extension hair care line, and expanding my educational skills. I’m doing a lot of hands-on training, so eventually I want to grow into more education.

And the “Kim-pire” doesn’t stop there. Kimble says her plans also include more producing. While Kimble serves as a producer for “LA Hair,” she’s also collaborating with WE tv on a new digital makeover show. Kimble’s new product line is expected to launch December 29th and 30th, 2016 on HSN.  Also, be sure to catch Season 5 of “LA Hair” on WEtv, January 5, 2017.
